Stand Still

How many situations have you been in where you felt the overwhelming need to act, but didn't know what to do? Maybe those are the times when God walks up behind you, gently moves you aside, looks at the situation and says, "Stand still and let me handle this."
I often find myself wondering about my ability to hear the voice of God. I become afraid that I will miss something that He has to say to me. I find that it needs to be settled in my heart that; if God wants to speak to me, He will make it known and I will know that it is Him.
We must all learn to stand still at times; maybe even set aside a small portion of our day just to come into His presence, be still, and wait.
Trusting God - Proverbs 3:5-6
Standing Still:
to see salvation - Ex 14:13, 2Chr 20:17
to hear God's command - Num 9:8
to hear God's Word - Jos 3:8-9, 1Sa 9:27
for God's supernatural favor - Jos 10:12-14
and consider God's wonders - Job 37:14
A Still small voice - 1Kings 19:11-2
A small cloud brings great rain - 1Kings 18:44
Finally, read Job, chapters 4 and 5, and know that God is in control!

We are often in too much of a rush to stand still in America. We have been programmed for the instant and fast for example: microwave ovens, the internet (but not dial up,we need high speed!!) and forget about waiting until you get home to check emails, we carry our computers in our purses or on our belts where at one time it was only a cell phone (but before that the phone hung on the wall or sat on a table, I remember having 'Party Lines"we would have to wait until the person(other house or houses) you shared a phone line with was finished before you could make a call, how did you know if they were using the phone, that was easy just pick up the receiver and if someone was talking then hang up and check again later.Of course the younger folks may ask how you received calls, each party was assigned a special ring, not ring tone,it may have been 2 short or 3 longs etc.) Instant gradification now! People take that training and try to force God to fit into that new mould of instant. God has never changed and never will. He is greater that any of us are able to conceive in our finite minds. We all fall short at times thinking that we are able to figure out God's complete plan and purpose. He on occasion may allow us to see just a glimpse. The prophet Isaiah had plenty of insight of God's splendor Isa. 40: 13-17,28-31, 41:1-6, 43:21,24, 44:24-26,45:7-13,46:3-13,50:2,55:8-13.
I agree with you Rob, we need to put into action the pratice of being still and waiting on the Lord, learn to listen for His voice. We through time will learn to be still and listen, but only through trial and error. I'm glad God has been and continues to be patient with me. This will equipt us to present ourselves as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God, which is our reasonable service. Service in the original is 'latreia' which is better translated 'worship' which would translate in a more serious manner "that you present your bodies a living sacfrice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your worship." WOW!!! R12 I'm enthusiastic about starting the new series.
